As a child in New York City in the 1960s, I remember frequently seeing the St. Vincent de Paul name on trucks, buildings and in print. Yet, as an adult living in Central Virginia, I was amazed to find that until five years ago, the Society had no presence in our area. That has now changed, and multiple conferences have been founded in churches throughout the area. While there are many organizations that help those in need, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is unique in that volunteers make home visits (phone calls during the current pandemic) to ascertain the needs of the poor, and better provide support, whether it be monetary, spiritual, referral, or other resources. Because of the current pandemic, the needs of those who have previously struggled have increased greatly, and many more are now struggling to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Please help!
The Friends of the Poor® Walk is a national event coordinated by the Development Team at the National Council of the United States Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
