At 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23rd, we set off from Berryman Plaza (in front of the church), walked the half-mile through our neighborhood to the Martin Luther King, Jr. School track on Hopkins Street, walked four to six laps, and then returned to Berryman Plaza, where Emily Onglatco served us welcome refreshments.
This is a fundraising event; thank you for your donations! All funds went directly to our parish St. Vincent de Paul Conference, in operation in our parish since 1959. We serve our neighbors in need who reside in Berkeley, Albany, and parts of North Oakland not served by other parishes, providing them with direct aid in the form of food vouchers and assistance with rent and utilities. At Christmastime we donate turkeys to 20 families of the "backstretch workers" of Golden Gate Fields.
The Friends of the Poor® Walk is a national event coordinated by the Development Team at the National Council of the United States Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
