St. Michael the Archangel - Glen Allen
As a child in New York City in the 1960s, I remember frequently seeing the St. Vincent de Paul name on trucks, buildings and in print. Yet, as an adult living in Central Virginia, I was amazed to find that until three years ago, the Society had no presence in our area. That has now changed, and multiple conferences have been founded in churches throughout the area. While there are many organizations that help those in need, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is unique in that volunteers make home visits to ascertain the needs of the poor, and better provide support, whether it be monetary, spiritual, referral, or other resources.
The Friends of the Poor® Walk is a national event coordinated by the Development Team at the National Council of the United States Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
